Big changes start with small steps, and updating your wardrobe in an earth-friendly way is a great place to start. The recent “Circle of Fashion” event in Vilnius brought together individuals passionate about sustainability to discuss the importance of buying less and staying stylish.
During the event, Darija Ilevičiūtė-Zaveckienė, founder of the Ukai.eu brand, shared her experience of creating socks made from recycled plastic bottles. Each pair of Ukai.eu socks purchased ensures the recycling of the 51st bottle! Aušvyda Kulikauskienė, who advocates for a more sustainable family life on the “Esu Eko” social networks, spoke about the benefits of a more sustainable lifestyle. The event was moderated by Lukas Svirplys, an image and scenography stylist and head of creative projects, who led a super interesting discussion.
The event highlighted the true cost of fast fashion. The actual price of a dress or shirt is much higher than what is indicated on the label. The production process of fast fashion often ignores human rights, toxic substances reach the seas and oceans, and clothes end up on the shores of third-world countries. It’s important to think twice before buying fast fashion and to consider more sustainable options.
The “Circle of Fashion” project is a series of events aimed at raising awareness about the negative consequences of fast fashion and promoting sustainable practices in the fashion industry. By taking small steps, we can make a big difference and create a more sustainable and equitable world.
