Clothing reform is a new trend that is gaining popularity among people who care about the environment and want to reduce their ecological footprint. Recently, the “Circle of Fashion” project organized a clothing “restoration” workshop in Vilnius where participants learned how to improve their clothes using volume techniques.
The workshop was led by Morta JonynaitÄ—, a Vilnius native who studied textiles in Amsterdam at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. Morta has been interested in the process of making and wearing clothes since she was a child. During her textile studies, she became very aware of the negative aspects of the fashion industry, including its excess and exploitative relationships. However, Morta believes that it’s important to pay attention to your own point of view and use creativity for visionary and inspiring projects.
During the workshop, participants learned how to transform their clothes using volume techniques. These techniques involve adding fabric to clothes to create new shapes and silhouettes. By learning these techniques, participants can give new life to old clothes and reduce the amount of textile waste that ends up in landfills.
The “Circle of Fashion” project is a series of events aimed at raising awareness about the negative consequences of fast fashion and promoting sustainable practices in the fashion industry. By organizing events like the clothing restoration workshop, the project is inspiring people to rethink their relationship with clothes and to embrace more sustainable and creative approaches to fashion.
