Thoughts about job shadowing in Cambodia (October 2022)
Job shadowing and volunteering experiences are an excellent way for individuals to gain new skills and knowledge, while also making a positive impact on the world. One such experience was undertaken by a Lithuanian participant called Laura in the “Circle of Fashion” project in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
The Circle of Fashion project was co-founded by the Erasmus+ program and aimed to raise awareness about the negative consequences of fast fashion and promote sustainable practices in the fashion industry. The Lithuanian participant had the opportunity to participate in job shadowing for 21 days, during which she helped with the preparation and implementation of a training course on sustainable fashion.
During the job shadowing period, the Lithuanian participant was able to gain hands-on experience in a real-world setting, working alongside experts in the field of sustainable fashion. She was able to observe and learn from professionals, as well as to actively participate in the planning and execution of the training course.
Through her participation in the Circle of Fashion project, the Lithuanian participant gained a deeper understanding of the negative impacts of fast fashion on the environment, as well as the importance of promoting sustainable fashion practices. She was able to share this knowledge with others, both in her home country and in Cambodia, raising awareness about these important issues.
Moreover, the participant also had the opportunity to experience a new culture and meet people from different backgrounds. This allowed her to broaden her perspective and develop her intercultural communication skills, which are essential in today’s globalized world.
Overall, the job shadowing and volunteering experience in Siem Reap was a valuable and enriching opportunity for the Lithuanian participant. She was able to gain new skills and knowledge, make a positive impact on the world, and develop a deeper understanding of global issues. Such experiences are not only personally fulfilling but also play an important role in creating a more sustainable and equitable world.
